Dann Hone: Crandall Printing Museum

Dann is chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Crandall Historical Printing Museum (known internationally as “the world’s most advanced Gutenberg printing museum”). He served as a member and officer in numerous international academic and professional organizations. For over thirty years he was a founder and administrator of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. While residing in Jerusalem for nine years as the Jerusalem Center Academic Coordinator, Dann also was adviser to the Dead Sea Scrolls Foundation, scout leader for the International Boy Scouts of America, and member/officer of Rotary International #249. As BYU faculty, he lectured and taught courses throughout the US and Eastern Mediterranean countries; subjects included ancient writings and languages, comparative religions, and Near Eastern studies presented at professional conferences, elementary, secondary and university level campuses, and on TV/radio programs. Dann was an officer on the Board of Directors for Environmental Technologies, Inc; Arkios Global Media, Inc; and a member of the National Association of Television Program Executives. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Arkios International, Inc, the Old Negev Research Institute, and as an officer with the Utah Republican Party. Also, as founding board member of America’s Freedom Alliance, Dann supports educational non-partisan organizations that promote studies of American Constitutional values and heritage.

His interests focus on the historical development of writing and printing. He completed his BA degree at BYU (international relations/political science) and MA at the Jerusalem University College (ancient studies with emphasis in historical geography, ancient Semitic languages, and archaeology). He has authored numerous articles, three university Independent study courses, and a 340-page textbook on the Near East. His studies include 13 modern and ancient languages and scripts. Dann hopes to preserve and promote an understanding of the development, importance and impact of printing on world society and supports legislation recognizing the printing industries, its role in Utah history, and the Utah Printers Hall of Fame. He was recently nominated to Who’s Who of American Executives and Professionals.
